First practice is Saturday and there is no kit
The club list assumes you already know what any of it means. This is the same list in plain words, with the two or three things that get a child sent off the pitch marked first.
6 things, already decided.
Work down the list. Tick off what you own. Every row opens on Amazon, where the current price
and the real delivery date live — we never print a price here.
The list
Down the page is what you need. Across each row is how to choose.

Shin guards
Most clubs will not let a player train without them, so this is the one that stops the session before it starts. Order it first.
What to check before you choose. Size is by height, not age. Check whether the pair includes ankle protection, and whether the club requires guards that sit fully under the sock.

Boots for the surface they play on
Grass, 3G and indoor all take different soles, and the wrong sole is the difference between gripping and sliding.
What to check before you choose. Firm ground (FG) for grass, artificial ground (AG) for 3G, flat soles indoors. Check which surface the club actually trains on before ordering.

A ball in the right size
Age groups play different ball sizes, and turning up with the wrong one means sitting out the drills.
What to check before you choose. Size 3 for the youngest, 4 in the middle years, 5 from around twelve. The club list usually states it; if not, ask before you order.

Long socks
They are not a style choice. The socks are what hold the shin guards in place.
What to check before you choose. Buy the club colour if there is one, and buy two pairs. One pair means a wet pair on Saturday.

A water bottle they can open themselves
Sessions run an hour or more and nobody is going to help twenty children with lids.
What to check before you choose. Check the lid can be opened one-handed with cold fingers. A wide mouth is easier to refill at a tap than a narrow sports cap.

A bag that keeps the wet kit off everything else
Everything comes home muddy. Without this it comes home in your car seats.
What to check before you choose. Look for a separate vented or waterproof compartment for boots. Check it fits a size 4 ball if you want to carry that too.
