Moving day is Monday and nothing is packed

The trap with a move is buying the wrong supplies in the wrong order. Boxes and tape first, protection second, labelling last - and labelling is the part everybody skips and then regrets on the far end.

5 things, already decided.
Work down the list. Tick off what you own. Every option opens on Amazon, where the current price and the real delivery date live — we never print a price here.

The list

Down the page is what you need. Across each row is how to choose.

  1. 01 of 05

Moving boxes in two sizes, not five

Small boxes for heavy things, large boxes for light things. Mixing sizes randomly is how you end up with a book box nobody can lift and a duvet box that crushes.

What to check before you choose. Check the box is rated by weight, not just dimensions. Buying a bundle of one small and one large size is faster than picking twelve individual sizes.

Packing tape and a dispenser gun

The dispenser is the part people leave out and it is the part that saves an entire evening. Hand-tearing tape across forty boxes is genuinely miserable.

What to check before you choose. Check the tape width matches the gun, and look for tape sold by the roll count rather than a single roll - a two-bed move eats far more than one.

    Bubble wrap or foam pouches

Plates and glasses break in transit, not in the box. What breaks them is movement, so the job is filling space, not adding thickness.

What to check before you choose. Foam pouches are quicker for glassware; bubble wrap is more flexible for odd shapes. Check the roll length - it always goes further on paper than in the kitchen.

A marker and labels that survive the truck

Every box looks identical at the other end. Writing the ROOM on the box, not the contents, is what makes unloading fast.

What to check before you choose. Permanent marker with a chisel tip reads from across a room. Colour labels per room are faster still if more than one person is carrying.

Furniture sliders or a moving strap

Most moving injuries are one person lifting one heavy thing badly. Sliders let you push instead of lift, which is the difference between a sofa moving and a back going.

What to check before you choose. Sliders come in hard-floor and carpet versions and they are not interchangeable - check which floor you actually have.
